Ground Wanderer Arc
Eps 1–3 · 3 epsWhat happens in the Ground Wanderer Arc of Gachiakuta?
It is the opening arc, covering episodes 1 to 3. Rudo lives in the Sphere's slums, where the descendants of criminals are penned in and treated as disposable. He is framed for the murder of his foster father Regto and sentenced to the Pit — the abyss the floating city dumps its rubbish into. Down on the Ground he meets a Cleaner named Enjin, sees how the world actually works for the first time, and discovers he can pull power out of objects other people threw away.
Is the Ground Wanderer Arc filler?
No. All three episodes adapt the opening chapters of Kei Urana's manga directly. Gachiakuta has no filler episodes at all in its first season.
Workplace Observation Arc
Ep 4 · 1 epWhat is the Workplace Observation Arc about?
The second arc, episode 4. Rudo has become a Cleaner trainee, and he tags along with Riyo on a real job clearing Trash Beasts out of a Polluted Zone — his first look at what the work actually involves rather than what he assumed it was.
Raiders Trap Arc
Eps 5–8 · 4 epsWhat happens in the Raiders Trap Arc?
Episodes 5 to 8. The Cleaners take a call from a merchant claiming a Trash Beast made off with his cargo — and that the cargo was a Sphereite, someone from the floating city above. The job turns out to be exactly what the arc name suggests, and Rudo has to hold his own in a fight he was not ready for.
Who are the Raiders in Gachiakuta?
A hostile group operating on the Ground who prey on Cleaners and travellers. They are the first organised enemy Rudo faces after joining the Cleaners, and their leader resurfaces later in the season during the Trash Storm Arc.
Successor Spellcaster Arc
Ep 9 · 1 epWhat is the Successor Spellcaster Arc about?
Episode 9, "The City of Graffiti". On the way to Penta the Cleaners stop at Canvas Town to visit a Giver who can bind protection into anything he draws, only to find something has happened to him — leaving his role open for someone else to inherit.
The Lady of Penta Arc
Eps 10–13 · 4 epsWhat happens in The Lady of Penta Arc?
Episodes 10 to 13. The Cleaners travel into the desert no man's land of Penta to look into a woman who claims she has watched people cross the border — something that is not supposed to be possible. That woman is Amo Empool, and the arc is where the season's larger question about what lies above the Ground starts to open up.
Who is the Lady of Penta?
Amo Empool, a teenage girl living alone in the forbidden zone of Penta. She can breathe air that should be lethal, and she plays up a sweet, childlike manner that the Cleaners work out fairly quickly is a decision rather than a personality.
Trash Storm Arc
Eps 14–23 · 10 epsWhat is the Trash Storm Arc in Gachiakuta?
The longest arc of the season, episodes 14 to 23. The Cleaners are resting after their last job when the boss of the Raiders turns up in front of them, and the season's biggest sustained run of fighting follows from there.
How many episodes is the Trash Storm Arc?
Ten — episodes 14 through 23, covering manga chapters 44 to 81. It fills most of the second cour and runs right up to the season finale.
Heritage Mural Arc
Ep 24 · 1 epWhere does the Gachiakuta anime stop?
Episode 24, "Field Trip", is the start of the Heritage Mural Arc rather than a clean ending. Arkha sends Rudo and a group of Cleaners to Canvas Town to help Remlin paint the Spellcaster Heritage mural, while the Hell Guard pay a visit to Cleaners Headquarters. A second season was announced right after the finale aired.
What manga chapter does the Gachiakuta anime end on?
Around chapter 82. Season 1 adapts roughly the first 82 chapters across its 24 episodes, finishing the Trash Storm Arc and opening the Heritage Mural Arc. Readers continuing from the anime should start there.
