Episodes 1-12 (2014) introduce Yato, a minor, penniless god with no shrine or worshippers who takes odd jobs for five-yen donations. After saving high schooler Hiyori Iki from an accident that leaves her soul loosely tethered to her body, Yato reluctantly takes her along as he searches for a new Regalia (a human soul serving as his weapon) and works to build his following.
