After seeing the Truth, Edward can perform alchemy by simply clapping his hands — bypassing the need for transmutation circles. This gives him an enormous speed advantage in combat, allowing instantaneous transmutation anywhere. He transmutes earth into weapons, walls, restraints, and platforms.
Edward uses his automail (mechanical prosthetic) right arm as a weapon — he can transmute it into a blade, reinforce it to block attacks, or use its metal construction as conductors for alchemy. His automail is custom-built for combat by Winry and Pinako.

Who is Edward Elric?
Edward Elric is the main protagonist of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. As a child, he and his brother Alphonse attempted human transmutation to revive their dead mother, which cost Edward his right arm and left leg — and Alphonse his entire body (bound to a suit of armor). Edward became a State Alchemist at age 12, the youngest ever, earning the title "Fullmetal Alchemist."
Does Edward Elric get his arm back?
Yes. At the end of Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, Edward sacrifices his ability to perform alchemy (his "Gate of Truth") to retrieve Alphonse's physical body from the other side of the Gate. Shortly after, Alphonse uses the Philosopher's Stone to restore Edward's arm.
How tall is Edward Elric?
