Lelouch Lamperouge encounters C.C. during a terrorist attack and receives the Power of Kings — Geass, the ability to give anyone an absolute command they must obey once. Lelouch immediately uses it to slaughter a platoon of Britannian soldiers. Zero is born.
Zero launches the Black Rebellion — a full-scale uprising against the Britannian empire using the Black Knights. The battle for Tokyo Station becomes the most spectacular sequence of Season 1.
Suzaku unmasks Zero and discovers it is Lelouch — his best friend. The two most important people in each other's lives are on opposite sides of a revolution.
Lelouch reveals his final plan: Suzaku, disguised as Zero, assassinates Emperor Lelouch in front of the world. Lelouch dies as the symbol of all hatred, giving the world something to direct its anger at. Peace follows. Whether he truly died remains the series' defining question.
