Olmar is Ketil's younger son, a young man desperate to prove himself a warrior in a world that values violence as the measure of manhood, whose bluster and eagerness to kill are challenged at every turn by his actual inexperience and moral hesitation when real violence confronts him. His arc across the Farmland Saga is one of Vinland Saga's most pointed commentaries on the toxic masculine ideal of the warrior, showing how the desire for violence without the capacity or nature for it destroys young men and those around them.
