Is Season 1 of Tokyo Ghoul faithful to the manga?
Season 1 (episodes 1–12) is a reasonably faithful adaptation of the manga's first arc, though condensed. It covers Kaneki's introduction, the CCG investigators (Doves) hunting ghouls, and the Gourmet Tsukiyama. The final episode deviates significantly from the manga.

Is Tokyo Ghoul Root A filler?
Root A is not filler in the traditional sense — it is an anime-original alternate route approved by the manga author Sui Ishida. However, it omits major manga events and characters. Many fans recommend reading the manga from the Aogiri arc onward for the intended experience.
