Techniques & Signature Moves

Attack
Gomu Gomu no Pistol
Gum-Gum Pistol

Luffy's most basic attack. He stretches his arm far back before launching it forward with tremendous speed and force, like firing a pistol. The first move Luffy ever uses in combat, learned from Shanks' crew.

Attack
Gomu Gomu no Bazooka
Gum-Gum Bazooka

Luffy stretches both arms far back simultaneously and then hurls them forward, striking the target with both fists at the same time. Far more powerful than the Pistol due to the combined force of both arms.

Attack
Gomu Gomu no Gatling
Gum-Gum Gatling

Luffy uses the rebound of his rubber arms to deliver a barrage of rapid punches faster than the eye can follow, resembling a Gatling gun. One of his most powerful conventional attacks, capable of overwhelming most opponents.

Transformation
Gear Second
Gear 2nd / Second Gear

Luffy pumps blood through his body at extremely high speed using his legs as a pump, raising his body temperature and metabolism to superhuman levels. This grants a massive boost in speed, strength, and reflexes — temporarily making him faster than the eye can track. His body steams as a side effect. Originally at the cost of significant stamina, though Luffy has refined it over time.

Transformation
Gear Third
Gear 3rd / Third Gear

Luffy bites his thumb and blows enormous amounts of air into his bones, inflating his arm to a massive size. The resulting giant limb can crush enemies with devastating force. In post-timeskip Luffy can coat the giant limb with Haki for even greater power.

Transformation
Gear Fourth
Gear 4th / Fourth Gear

Luffy coats his arm in Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki) and bites it, inflating his muscles while infusing every fiber with Haki. This creates a massive, muscular form with extraordinary offense and defense. Luffy gains flight capability and his attacks become coated with Haki by default. Developed during his two-year training on Rusukaina island fighting enormous beasts.

Form
Boundman
Bounceman

The default Gear Fourth sub-form. Luffy's body is massively enlarged and springy — like a giant rubber ball — allowing him to bounce and rebound off his own body to deliver devastating blows. His primary Gear Fourth form, balanced between speed, power, and mobility.

Form
Snakeman
Snakeman

A Gear Fourth sub-form optimized for speed over power. Luffy's body is slimmer than Bounceman and his punches follow serpentine, unpredictable trajectories called Python. Developed to counter Charlotte Katakuri's ability to dodge future-sight predictions.

Transformation
Gear Fifth
Gear 5th / Sun God Nika

The awakening of Luffy's Devil Fruit — the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. Luffy's hair and clothes turn white, his eyes glow with flame rings. He gains the ability to make anything around him as rubbery as his own body, turning reality itself cartoonish. Based on the legendary Sun God Nika, Luffy's heart beats to a joyful drum rhythm. His powers become limited only by his imagination.

Attack
Gomu Gomu no Red Hawk
Gum-Gum Red Hawk

Combining Gear Second's speed with Haki, Luffy ignites his arm by moving it so fast it catches fire, then delivers a devastating fire-punch. Named after Portgas D. Ace's Mera Mera no Mi fire ability as a tribute. One of Luffy's most powerful pre-Gear-Fourth attacks.

Attack
Kong Gun
Kong Gun

Luffy's primary Gear Fourth (Bounceman) attack. He compresses his fist into his arm and then launches it outward with enormous rebound force, like a cannon. The Haki-coating and compression create an explosive impact far beyond a regular Gomu Gomu no Pistol.
