Gecko Moria is the former Warlord of the Sea who ruled Thriller Bark, a massive zombie ship sailing the Florian Triangle, where he used the Kage Kage no Mi to steal people's shadows and animate corpses. Once a powerful captain whose entire crew was wiped out by Kaido in the New World, his defeat broke him into a paranoid, lazy tyrant who relied entirely on his shadow-powered zombie army instead of fighting himself. His arc on Thriller Bark introduced the Straw Hats to the true existential terror of the New World's power ceiling, setting the stage for the events at Sabaody.
