Who is Gaara?
Gaara of the Desert is the jinchuriki of Shukaku (the One-Tailed Tanuki) and the Fifth Kazekage of Sunagakure. He begins as a murderous antagonist obsessed with proving his existence through killing, but Naruto's refusal to give up on him triggers Gaara's transformation into one of the series' greatest heroes.
Why does Gaara have "Love" tattooed on his forehead?
The kanji "愛" (ai, love) was tattooed on Gaara's forehead by himself after he realized he would only love himself. After his uncle Yashamaru falsely told him that no one ever truly loved him, Gaara carved the symbol as a reminder that he exists only for himself.
Does Gaara lose Shukaku?
Yes. The Akatsuki extracts Shukaku from Gaara, killing him temporarily. He is resurrected by Chiyo's life-giving technique at the cost of her own life. After losing Shukaku, Gaara retains the ability to control sand through his own chakra and his mother's will embedded in the sand.
