Hidan is an Akatsuki member and devotee of the blood god Jashin, who achieved immortality through his religion and wields a triple-bladed scythe in a ritual combat style that links his body to a target's, causing any damage he inflicts on himself to be mirrored onto them. Crude, loud, and seemingly invincible, his blasé attitude toward death and pain made him uniquely terrifying. His defeat by Shikamaru—who buried him piece by piece after dismembering him with explosives in a revenge battle for Asuma's death—is one of the series' most cathartic and methodically satisfying villain defeats.
