Deidara is an Akatsuki member and former ninja from the Hidden Stone Village who turned explosions into art, using his mouth-hands to create and detonate clay sculptures imbued with explosive chakra. His philosophical obsession with 'art is a bang'—the belief that the most beautiful things are fleeting explosions—drove him to constantly seek opponents worthy of his most spectacular detonations. His final battle with Sasuke, ending in a suicidal C4 explosion that failed to kill his target, is a portrait of an artist destroyed by his own philosophy.
