Zabuza Momochi is the Demon of the Hidden Mist, a former member of the Seven Swordsmen of the Mist wielding the massive cleaver sword Kubikiribōchō who attempted a failed assassination of the Fourth Mizukage and fled to become a mercenary. The villain of the Land of Waves Arc, his brutal and seemingly emotionless professionalism was shattered when Haku's death provoked grief he had claimed not to feel, culminating in a final act of murderous self-sacrifice to reach Gato. His arc established One Piece's template for antagonists whose cruelty conceals grief and love they cannot admit to.
