Haku is the tragic companion and weapon of Zabuza Momochi, an orphan boy from the Land of Water with a rare Kekkei Genkai allowing him to combine wind and water chakra into Ice Release. Raised by Zabuza as a tool and finding genuine purpose and love in that role, he dies protecting Zabuza from Kakashi's Lightning Blade—a death that proved Zabuza's grief was real and shattered young Naruto's certainty about what defines a person's worth. His belief that people become truly strong when protecting those precious to them helped crystallize the ninja philosophy that Naruto would carry forward.
