Saiyan Arc
What episodes are the Saiyan arc in Dragon Ball Z?
Episodes 1–35. Raditz arrives on Earth, Goku dies sacrificing himself, trains in the afterlife, and the surviving Z Fighters face Nappa and Vegeta.
Does Goku die in the Saiyan arc?
Yes. Goku holds Raditz in place so Piccolo can fire the Special Beam Cannon in episode 1. Both die. Goku is revived with the Dragon Balls before the Frieza arc.
How does Goku defeat Vegeta?
Kaioken x4 and a Spirit Bomb both fail to finish Vegeta. Gohan transforming into an Oozaru (Great Ape) deals crucial damage. Krillin, Yajirobe, and Gohan help finish him. Goku spares Vegeta at Krillin's request.
Frieza Arc
What episodes are the Frieza arc in Dragon Ball Z?
Episodes 40–107 on Planet Namek, where the Z Fighters race Frieza for the Namekian Dragon Balls to revive those killed by the Saiyans.
What is Super Saiyan?
A legendary transformation triggered by intense emotional pain. Goku transforms for the first time in episode 95 after Frieza kills Krillin. Power multiplies 50-fold, turning hair golden and aura electric.
Does Planet Namek get destroyed?
Yes. Frieza blows up Namek's core in episode 105. Goku continues fighting Frieza on the crumbling planet. New Namek is later created using the Dragon Balls.
Android & Cell Arc
What episodes are the Android and Cell arc?
Episodes 118–194. Androids 17, 18, and 16 emerge; Cell absorbs the androids to reach Perfect form; the Cell Games tournament decides Earth's fate.
How does Gohan defeat Cell?
Gohan achieves Super Saiyan 2 in episode 184 after Android 16's death triggers his rage. Cell tries to self-destruct; Goku teleports Cell away, sacrificing himself. Cell regenerates; Gohan fires the Father-Son Kamehameha with Goku's spirit to destroy Cell.
Does Goku die again in the Cell arc?
Yes. Goku teleports himself and Cell away when Cell threatens to blow up the Earth. He chooses to remain dead rather than continue drawing danger to Earth, staying dead until the Buu arc.
Majin Buu Arc
What episodes are the Majin Buu arc?
Episodes 195–291. Majin Buu awakens, Goku reveals Super Saiyan 3, Fusion techniques are introduced, and the final Spirit Bomb ends the Dragon Ball Z era.
What is Super Saiyan 3?
SSJ3 massively amplifies power beyond SSJ2 but drains energy at enormous rate. Goku first shows it in episode 216 against Majin Buu. Gotenks briefly achieves it. Goku uses it sparingly because of the lifespan drain.
What is Fusion?
Two methods: the Fusion Dance (synchronized poses, creating Gotenks from Goten and Trunks) and Potara Earring fusion (more powerful, creating Vegito from Goku and Vegeta). Potara was originally said to be permanent but is retconned as temporary inside Buu's body.
How is Kid Buu defeated?
Goku fires a Super Spirit Bomb energized by the people of Earth — convinced to donate energy by Hercule. The bomb obliterates Kid Buu in episode 286.
