Soichiro Yagami is Light's father and the head of the NPA's Kira Task Force, a deeply principled policeman who would sooner die than allow criminals to go unpunished—a moral absolutism that is both his defining strength and the cruel irony of his situation, as his dedicated hunt for Kira unknowingly targets his own son.
