Rolo Lamperouge is an assassin implanted in Lelouch's life as a fake brother to monitor and eventually kill him if he regained his memories, wielding the Geass ability to freeze the subjective time perception of all people within his range except himself. His attachment to Lelouch—the first person who ever showed him kindness, even if that kindness was initially calculated manipulation—grew into genuine love that led him to sacrifice his own life to save Lelouch at the cost of overusing his Geass. His death, coming after Lelouch's admission that Nunnally was the sister he truly wanted, is one of Code Geass's most devastating quiet tragedies.
