Nina Einstein is a student at Ashford Academy whose obsessive devotion to Princess Euphemia spiraled into a xenophobic radicalism that led her to develop the world's first nuclear weapon—the Fleija bomb—after Euphemia's death, weapons that slaughtered millions of people at the Tokyo Settlement. Her arc is one of Code Geass's bleakest, following an initially sympathetic background character through grief and obsession into becoming an inadvertent mass murderer whose personal loss scaled to civilizational catastrophe. Her eventual redemption through attempting to create a deactivation system for the weapon she built is Code Geass at its most unflinching about consequences.
