Biography

Sui Ishida is a Japanese manga artist who created Tokyo Ghoul, serialized in Weekly Young Jump from 2011 to 2018, and its sequel Tokyo Ghoul:re from 2014 to 2018. A former graphic designer, Ishida brought a distinctly visual art sensibility to manga storytelling — Tokyo Ghoul is noted for its detailed horror imagery, expressive character design, and occasional integration of visual art motifs. The series sold over 47 million copies and was adapted into four anime seasons, though the later seasons' compression of the source material generated criticism. Ishida is known for his emotional transparency with fans through social media — posting artwork, responding to reader questions, and sharing his creative process with unusual openness for a manga creator of his scale.
