Koyoharu Gotouge
Biography
Koyoharu Gotouge is a Japanese manga artist who created Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, serialized in Weekly Shōnen Jump from 2016 to 2020. Relatively private by industry standards, Gotouge has declined most interviews and public appearances, preferring to let the work speak independently. Despite this, Demon Slayer achieved unprecedented commercial success — at one point its collected volumes occupied all top ten spots on the Japanese bestseller list simultaneously, and the Mugen Train film became the highest-grossing Japanese film of all time at its release. Gotouge's art style is noted for its expressive character work and distinctive visual patterning, while the storytelling is praised for its emotional directness and relatively concise narrative scope compared to ongoing shonen series. The completion of the manga in 2020 allowed the anime adaptation to plan and execute a definitive ending.
